EMSI Self-Service Automation

Please download the "SOAP Endpoint Usage Guide" from the samples on the right for information on sending messages for validation via SOAP.

EMSI, the market leader in medical information services, is committed to streamlining the medical underwriting workflow. The EMSI ACORD connectivity bundle offers all of the documentation, transaction templates, and testing tools you need to seamlessly integrate your internal systems with EMSI for requirement ordering, status updates, and receipt of results.

Integration with service providers is often a painful process, extended over months. Experience has shown that the most timestaking component of these projects is the communication of data format and connectivity requirements and the subsequent back-and-forth involved with the iterative testing of the interface.

EMSI leads the industry in offering a standards-based, self-service solution to B2B integration.

Why automate your underwriting requirements?

Automating the underwriting requirements workflow is a critical step in the evolution towards straight-through processing of new business applications. Business-to-business integration of this process:

  • Eliminates the manual re-keying of application information into order forms
  • Eliminates the need for agents or underwriters to log in to external systems for results or status updates
  • Enables automatic imaging of results
  • Enables real-time status updates to be posted to carrier systems
  • Reduces errors
  • Reduces time to issue

What is self-service integration?

Self-Service Integration means that your IT staff does not need to wait for hours, days, or even weeks to get a response back to technical inquiries, or to receive feedback on the validity of a test file. All of the information you need to get started with your implementation is available from this web page. Once you have implemented, the majority of the integration testing is handled through our fully automated test harness. Payloads are validated against our processing rules in real-time, with results available immediately. The reduction in back-and-forth communication on the front end of the implementation process can slash timelines and expense by 80% or more.

What parts of the process does EMSI allow me to automate?

EMSI provides business-to-busness transactions for the full lifecycle of our services. These include:

  • Ordering of any EMSI-supported underwriting requirements (Paramedical, Labs, MVR, Teleunderwriting, etc.,)
  • Confirmation of receipt of orders
  • Ongoing, real-time status notifications
  • Delivery of imaged results

The EMSI ACORD Connectivity Bundle includes a set of "paint-by-numbers" transaction templates that facilitate the adaptation of your various internal systems to the various ACORD-standard transactions accepted by EMSI. These transactions include:

  • ACORD 121 Requirement Order Request
  • ACORD 1122 Requirement Status and Results

What are the steps I need to take to implement?

  1. Review the interface documentation, available on the right-hand side of this screen.
  2. If desired, download the PilotFish XCS eiConsole (free to ACORD members, 90-evaluations available to all)
  3. If you are using the XCS eiConsole, click the "Download" button above to obtain the transaction templates
  4. Configure your interface to EMSI, using the documentation and/or transaction templates
  5. Pre-certify your data format and connectivity by sending transactions to the automated test facility
  6. Contact EMSI to configure your test and production accounts
